This week in school we have focused on TISWAS – Today is School Wear A Smile! We have talked about how this is more important than ever at the moment when we cannot shake hands and that it is quite difficult to read each others feelings if we are wearing face masks! When we did our community Google Meet assembly this morning I was greeted with over 500 very smiley faces which was brilliant to see! We have also been delighted to welcome our new Reception and Nursery pupils into school this week – welcome to our Lovelace family!

Thank you for your persistence with the staggered starts – most children are now in school by 9.15am under the new Covid-secure routines. We hope to slightly adjust our system by 28th September by reinstating the Devon Way gate for entry and exit but by still following the same one-way loops and time slots. Thank you too to all the adults for wearing a mask – it is making a difference. We do have a few parents who are medically exempt from wearing them. The video here is a useful reminder about why we need to do this:

All of the above results in a very settled and calm arrival into class by the children and ensures a great start to each child’s day! I know a number of parents have also commented on how pleasant the walk up to school is too!

We also restarted our swimming lessons today for year 5 and 6 following the new Swim England guidance. Huge thanks to Mrs. Cropley our swimming teacher, Mr. Mildenhall and Mrs. Webb for all their hard work in getting this up and running so that our children do not miss out on this vital life skill and physical activity.

We are also hoping to begin the resumption of a hot meal service from
5th October beginning with YR, Y1 and Y2. The menu and eating arrangements will be slightly different and we hope to share details of this next week once we have confirmed with our caterers ISS.

Make the most of the weekend.
